cam.contemporarie is proud to present ‘on constellations of pause’, a solo exhibition of works by London based artist, ekabo donyi ezhava. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition in London.

The exhibition examines the conventions of contemporary written language and its inability to communicate the multiplicity of selfhood. By removing written words from bureaucratic and theoretical texts, ezhava maps the punctuation that remains, tracing networks that become constellations of pauses. These abstract cartographies are then translated into sculpture, diagrams and disparate materials.

ezhava’s steel and aluminium forms allude to unfolded bodies and containers of writing such as pages and books, allowing the viewer to interpret the variance of language. Each sculpture, or “skin,” is imagined as a torn page, shedding as it changes, symbolizing the plurality of selfhood and spirit — from the malleability of human nature and the soul when seen rather than read, to the aluminum and steel forms when softened, hardened, textured, or covered in wax pigments alluding to the everchanging duality of material bodies. The raw surfaces retain the gestures, pressures and interruptions of inscription, suspending these traces within the materials they work with.
