As a freelance illustrator based in the Bussey Building, Park, Emma Jones specialises in hand drawn illustration, printmaking and painting and works with watercolour, pen and ink drawings, often in a repeat-pattern design.

Her background in wildlife conservation and set design and love of botany imbues her work with strong themes of natural history and architecture. Using colourful, bold, layers with economy of line, it’s important for Emma that her lines are not overworked and convey the strength or fragility of the subject without appearing too laboured.

With an art foundation and BSc in Biology under her belt, Emma spent 15 years in London’s bustling film industry as a set decorator, art director and prop stylist and straddling the line between science and art is a recurrent theme in her work. It was a desire to return to hands-on creativity, coupled with the film industry’s long hours and raising children, that led her to her current art practice.

Now her hand-painted murals get snapped up commercial and private clients, and she creates screen prints and illustrations for print and digital. Past clients include Dorling Kindersley, Capital One Radio, Collect Plus and Zizzi restaurants and she is currently making a series of surface pattern designs for a bespoke tailoring company, while preparing some up-and-coming commercial art wall installations.
