Founded by graphic designer/illustrator Ocki Magill in 2015, Letter Bug now enjoys 21.8K followers on Instagram. She creates bespoke hand drawn and hand-painted initial paintings and her specialised typography is illustrated featuring storks, pumpkins, frogs, autumnal leaves – all of nature is represented here.
Each and every letter for Ocki’s Letter Bug project is made for a specific client, eg. she made a specific wizard hat letter for a Harry Potter fan. Fusing bright colours with textures and details, Ocki’s letters are inspired by nature, postcards that she’s picked up or screenshot colour palettes from Instagram.
Having left Central St Martins in 2008, she’s enjoyed a pretty sweet career as an MTV art director, designed a jewellery collection for Topshop, created the brand identity for Gottwood Festival and now works as an illustrator / designer for clients such as Adidas, MINI, Jigsaw and Philips.
From her studio in Copeland Park, Ocki consults with clients to design specifically to their brief. Each letter is chosen, then hand drawn and carefully hand painted in Winsor & Newton gouache paints before being framed in beautiful oak frames with a cream mount that can either stand or be hung. It can then be individually gift wrapped and posted to anywhere in the world.
