Roads2Joya specialise in traditional and modern upholstery, upcycling and creating bespoke pieces for the home. Preserving treasured items and offering them a touch of something new, its upholsterers are trained and certified by the Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers (AMUSF), which allows for the expertise and touch to create beautiful, sophisticated pieces with an elegant finish.
The design consultancy’s head honcho Ayesha Sowani seeks to redefine antiques in a modern world. With her love of many practices, including upholstery, graphic design and car body-work, she is able to put together bespoke pieces of furniture and design which are innovative and one-of-a-kind.
Her British Asian background has enabled her to create striking pieces that have a colourful vibrancy and she handpicks unique items which are refinished and, occasionally, switches the colours via techniques and paints used in the automotive trade.
Her inspiration comes from everyday sources, from browsing suburban antiques market to the Museum of Curiosity in Soho. Collaborating with cutting-edge interior designer Shalini Misra, they work together to give client’s best-loved pieces a new lease of life.
Ayesha seeks to combine her graphic design experience into her work and, as well as using antique textiles from India and Uzbekistan, she designs her own fabrics to use with antique furniture. Catch Roads2Joya at Peckham Festival each year where they run traditional upholstery courses for Peckham’s design lovers.
