A live art experience that explores the profound importance of afro hair to the black identity: from traditions, symbolism and cultural significance to customs and beliefs.

Audiences will learn about the significance hair has played and continues to play in social groupings, hierarchy, status and bonding in Afro-Caribbean societies as well as within the community of Peckham, with a focus on the hairdressers which have provided a strong social base for many generations of Afro and West Indian men and women. Afro hair salons provide spaces to learn and embrace the black identity, and with the ever creeping gentrification of local communities, such spaces are becoming increasingly precious.
